Types of Hats

The basic definition of a hat says it is a piece of clothing to cover the head. It is worn either for the protection against sun or due to religious reasons. But nowadays, hats have become an important element of fashion accessories.

The structure of a hat includes a crown, peak, brim, hatband, sweatband and lining. Crown is that portion which covers the head. Peak is a projection from front to shield from the sun while, brim is a projection from the bottom of hat’s crown all around the circumference of a hat especially in case of a cowboy hat. Hatband is a band that runs around the bottom of the crown above the brim. Sweatband, as the name suggests, stops sweat from soiling the main body of hat. Lining is generally used to bear the brand’s name and label. While Stetson hats are also most popular hat in the world and it is popular among men and women, in straw, felt or leather.

There are humongous varieties of types of hats available in the market. Some of the famous types are mentioned here. Hats such as fedora are a soft felt hat with a lengthwise crease.  Stetson hat also called as “boss of all plains” is a lightweight hat suitable for all the weathers. Derby hat is a hard felt hat with a rounded crown created in 1850. Hats called as Bucket hats are in demand. They are soft cotton hats with a wide downwards-sloping brim. Porkpie hat is circular and flat topped hat.

The markets for Hats are getting enormous as these are the only fashion apparel which will remain in the trend forever.
